Authorities: Boy, 7, Hardly Injured After Being Thrown From Car
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 7-year-old boy suffered "very" minor injuries Monday morning after a crash threw him out of his grandparents' car and into a ditch in northern Minnesota, authorities say.
The crash happened just after 11 a.m. near the 7500 block of Wilson Road in rural Eveleth, Minn., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said.
The boy, William Evans-Peterson, was riding in the back of a car driven by his grandfather, 52-year-old Peter Thorsen. The two, along with the boy's grandmother, were driving east on Wilson Road when a pickup truck slammed into them head-on.
Authorities said a witness reported seeing the truck lose control on the icy road.
During the crash, Evans-Peterson flew out of the back seat and into a nearby ditch.
Emergency crews brought the boy to a Duluth hospital for a possible knee injury. The boy's grandmother, Michele Thorsen, was brought to Virginia Regional Medical Center, where she will be held overnight for observation, authorities said.
Boy's grandfather and the truck's driver, 30-year-old Brian McCloud of Virginia, suffered no injuries.
Both vehicles, however, sustained heavy damage, the Sheriff's Office said.
