Authorities: 2 Arrested After 5-Month Meth Investigation In St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Two men have been arrested after a 5-month investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine in the St. Cloud metro region, according to authorities.
On Tuesday, Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force investigators complete a search warrant on a 1994 Dodge Minivan owned by Dan Oltz. Oltz is currently in custody for meth manufacturing from incidents that occurred in November 2012. The van had been driven by an associate of Oltz, identified as Derald Hausmann, 62, until it was impounded by St. Cloud Police.
Inside the van, police discovered a meth lab, which included chemicals and a 150-pound anhydrous ammonia tank. The items were processed and properly disposed of through Stearns County environmental services.
Also on Tuesday, two separate search warrants were conducted related to the same investigation.
The first warrant occurred on the 1214 block of 7th Avenue North in St. Cloud. There, home at the time was the suspect, 46-year-old Scott Olson, along with items associated with the manufacture and use of meth, including 2 grams of meth.
Olson was taken to Stearns County Jail and booked on fifth-degree possession charges. He could also face first-degree conspiracy to manufacture meth charges.
During the course of the Olson search warrant, investigators were able to determine that another meth lab was currently in use at another apartment on the east side of St. Cloud.
Task force investigators then executed a search warrant at the 1215 East St. Germain, Apt. No. 6. Home at the time were Hausmann and 55-year-old Harold Beals. Inside the apartment, investigators located more meth manufacturing items, including chemicals and anhydrous ammonia in a used fire extinguisher in Hausmann's room. Five grams of meth and a jar containing meth oil was also found.
Hausmann was taken to the Stearns County Jail on charges stemming from the mobile meth lab discovery earlier and now faces first-degree meth manufacturing charges in both Stearns and Bento Counties, possessing anhydrous ammonia in unapproved containers in both counties and a possession of methamphetamine charge in Benton County.
The Central Minnesota Violent Offenders Task Force is made up of officers from the St. Cloud, Sartell, and Little Falls Police Departments, and deputies from Stearns, Benton, Todd, and Morrison County Sheriff's Offices.
