Austin Police Arrest Teen After Cousin Was Burned
AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) -- Austin police have arrested a 14-year-old boy who allegedly smeared hand sanitizer on his 7-year-old cousin's back and lit him on fire.
Police Chief Brian Krueger tells the Austin Daily Herald on Thursday that the boy was being held in a juvenile detention center in Rochester. He was arrested Wednesday evening.
Krueger has said the 7-year-old boy's parents brought him to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin on Tuesday with burns on his back.
The boy told his parents and hospital officials his older cousin put hand sanitizer on his back and lit it. Krueger says the boy was treated for first- and second-degree burns and released.
Krueger says a report has been forwarded to Mower County prosecutors for possible charges against the teen.
