Attorney Wants Trevino Murder Conviction Dismissed
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's been less than a month since Jeffrey Trevino was convicted of killing his wife, But the case is not over yet.
Trevino's defense wants a judge to dismiss the conviction in the death of Kira Steger. An attorney for Trevino claims an insufficient legal basis for the jury's verdict.
Earlier this month Trevino was convicted of killing his wife after it was revealed she was unhappy in their marriage and was having an affair with another man. The motion filed Wednesday, argues Steger's injuries were on the level of third-degree assault not murder.
A jury convicted Trevino of second-degree murder without intent, and he is scheduled to be sentenced in the case in November.
