At Camp Fitzgerald, Floyd Seeks Breakout Sophomore Season
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota native Michael Floyd was a first round NFL Draft pick back in 2012.
The Arizona Cardinal wide receiver was hot in high school at Cretin-Derham Hall, blossomed at Notre Dame and is now hoping to have a break-out sophomore season in the NFL.
"I had a mindset to be the best," he said.
He's working on his craft in the hot offseason, knowing it's discipline that will separate him. That's why Floyd spends his summers at Camp Fitzgerald, alongside Arizona teammate Larry Fitzgerald Jr., one of the game's best wideouts.
And the two Minnesotans lived together last year, too.
"I don't try to tell him what to do," Fitzgerald said. "Mike is a guy who can learn very easily by watching and studying. Just to see his progress from last year to where he is now, he's grown exponentially."
Floyd knows there is never time to rest with Fitzgerald's long shadow.
"He pushes me to make sure I stay up and get through the drills," Floyd said.
And now he knows a lot of hot summer days are where you define your career in the NFL.
"When I get onto the field, I'll know my capabilities and what I can do and when the ball comes my way," Floyd said.
