Army Corps: Sequester Won't Hamper Spring Flooding Fight
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Army Corps of Engineers says the budget battle in Washington won't stop the fight against spring flooding.
Flood forecasts say the Red River in the Fargo/Moorhead area could hit one of its five highest crests this year.
Flooding could also happen again along the Mouse River. The head of Army Corps operations says federal cuts in spending blamed on the sequester will not hamper flood relief efforts.
"As far as emergency operations and flood fighting, the corps will be there when communities ask us to be there,"
A big reason why the flood risk is so high this spring is because some of the snow melt that usually happens by this time of year hasn't.
