Are You A Problem Drinker? More Than 1 In 10 Americans Are, Study Says
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than one in ten Americans have a drinking problem, and many never get treatment.
A new study found nearly 33 million Americans are drinking too much alcohol -- that's 14 percent of the population. This is the first estimate since doctors combined alcohol abuse and dependence into one disorder.
So what's at-risk or heavy drinking? For men, it's more than four drinks on any day or 14 drinks in a week. For women, it's more than three drinks on any day, or seven a week.
To find out if you're a high, medium or low risk drinker, the National Institutes of Health have posted a "Drinking Problem Calculator" on their website.
