Are We Losing Friends Over Elections?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A poll from Monmouth University shows that the heated presidential campaign is reportedly fraying the bonds between friends.
Things have reportedly gotten so bad that 1 in 14 Americans have ended a friendship because of a political disagreement during this election season. We're now less than two weeks away from Election Day.
The 2016 election cycle is being called the "De-Friending Election." If you're being de-friended on Facebook or not eating lunch with some of your co-workers, the good news is you're not alone. It's a growing trend during elections.
The study shows about seven percent of voters have cut ties with a friend over the 2016 election. The study also shows the same number of voters reported lost friendships in previous election years.
So why is it so hard for us to remain civil? Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, dislike each other a lot more than they used to. Experts say we have a tendency to de-friend people we disagree with.
Experts say cooler heads tend to prevail after the elections are over.
