Arboretum Re-Opening Its Bog Walk With 'Bog Bash'
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen is celebrating the grand re-opening of its popular Bog Walk with a "Bog Bash."
The party runs from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday with live music and family activities.
First created over 40 years ago, the half-mile trail around Green Heron Pond was a favorite for Arboretum visitors. The pond, its adjacent marsh and bog represent three naturally occurring ecosystems that are part of the state's geologic and landscape heritage.
But after decades of service, the original wood deteriorated so much that the boardwalk was closed for renovation in 2009. Now it's back and the Arboretum says it's better than ever, with 100 new pilings, some to a depth of 60 feet, and with new interpretive signs telling the stories of its wild residents.
