BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Burnsville apartment complex is getting its rental license revoked after failing to properly respond to multiple code violations.
Lee LaTourelle, Burnsville Fire Marshal, inspected Country Village Apartments on Tuesday and revoked its license after the owner -- Lindahl Properties Inc. -- failed to meet a Jan. 15 deadline to install fire doors in some swellings.
Deputy City Manager Tom Hansen said the move to revoke this license is unprecedented in Burnsville.
"Minor repairs were made to individual units, but the property overall has grossly failed to meet the City's minimum code requirements," said Hansen.
A letter will be going out to residents on Thursday, notifying them that they will be evicted because of the license revocation. They will have to vacate the property by March 1.
There are less than 100 units currently occupied.
According to the Scott Carver Dakota Community Action Partnership, about 40 to 60 families will need help finding new homes. The organization said they won't be getting their security deposits back, so the agency is trying to raise the money for them to put down security deposits on new apartments.
The City of Burnsville originally threatened to revoke the license after finding more than 100 code violations on the property. The problems stem back to 2011, after residents called the city with complaints.
Hansen said inspectors started looking into the problems last year discovering mold and rodent infestations.
