Apple Valley Woman Pleads Guilty To Defrauding Job, Medica Of $840 K
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An Apple Valley woman pleaded guilty Monday to defrauding Medica and her employer of approximately $840,000.
According to the U.S. Attorney's office, 48-year-old Lori Jo Mueller pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of health care fraud. In her plea agreement, Mueller admitted that she embezzled money from Edelweiss Home Health Care in Maple Grove between June 2006 and June 2012.
Mueller was vice president of operations at Edelweiss, where she was in charge of bookkeeping, review and payment of corporate invoices as well as other duties. She used the corporate checking account to issue payment to herself. Mueller caused more than $631,000 in fraudulent proceeds to be paid by Medica.
She faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison for wire fraud, and 10 years for health care fraud.
