Appeals Court Upholds Conviction Of Game Killer
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) -- The sentence for a man convicted of fatally shooting an acquaintance at a poker game in St. Cloud will stand.
The state Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction and sentence Leun Thongpasom. He was convicted in Benton County last year of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by an ineligible person and possession of a pistol without a permit.
The St. Cloud Times reports he appealed his conviction and the 30-year, six-month sentence.
Thongpasom argued there was ample evidence that he acted in self-defense when he shot 43-year-old Ki Nahouakhong.
This week the Court of Appeals disagreed, citing witnesses who testified that they didn't see an altercation between the men before the shooting.
