Antibacterial Soap Chemical Found In 8 MN Lakes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A chemical commonly found in antibacterial soaps is showing up in Minnesota lakes.
University of Minnesota researchers studied sediment from eight lakes, including Lake Pepin and Lake Superior, and found the levels of triclosan are increasing.
Besides soaps and body washes, the chemical is also found in cosmetics and toothpastes.
It's still not clear what effect it has on animals and the environment.
