Another Minn. Bear To Give Birth Via Internet
ELY, Minn. (AP) — The sister of a black bear who gave birth while the world watched via a webcam is preparing to give birth herself.
And officials also plan to broadcast that on the Internet.
Dr. Lynn Rogers, senior biologist of the Wildlife Research Institute, said Saturday Jewel is showing signs of preparing to give birth and the big day could be any day.
Three-year-old Jewel is the younger sister of Lily, who gave birth in January 2010 to Hope. The birth and early days were followed by millions of viewers over the Internet. A hunter killed Hope last year and biologists say it was a blow to their research.
This is the third year the institute and the North America Bear Center are broadcasting from dens in northeastern Minnesota.
