Man Arrested In Shooting Now Also Charged With Robbery
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 19-year-old man has been charged as an accomplice to an August 2011 home invasion that police say ended in a woman's rape.
The man is already being held at Hennepin County Jail due to separate charges that he allegedly shot his sister's boyfriend in a domestic situation in January.
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office announced new charges against Paul Deon Rattler on Tuesday in connection with the home invasion.
Investigators said a married couple in their 50s was returning to their St. Paul apartment at about 3:30 a.m. on the 1700 block of Norfolk Avenue on Aug. 26.
The criminal complaint says they were approached by three men at an entry door, and one man with a gun told them, "Give us everything you have."
The men allegedly then forced the couple back into their apartment. Two of the men forced the man to drive them to a bank ATM and withdraw $500 for them, the complaint says.
While the others were away, the third man -- 24-year-old Kimanie Markeys Carter -- allegedly raped the 53-year-old woman at gunpoint. He is scheduled for trial in April.
The men were arrested after another home invasion incident in south Minneapolis.
According to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, Rattler was named by the third suspect -- 21-year-old Derrean Darnel Hogan -- as being the one who first ordered the couple back into their apartment.
The attorney's office says Rattler allegedly was also the one who ordered the man to drive them to the bank to withdraw money for them.
Rattler now faces two counts each of first-degree aggravated assault and kidnapping. Rattler was also charged with first-degree assault and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm in connection with the January shooting.
According to the complaint, Hogan shot his sister's boyfriend after the victim allegedly punched her, giving her a black eye. The complaint says the victim suffered brain damage from the shooting.
Hogan has been charged with three counts of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree assault and one count of first-degree burglary.
