Anoka Co. Sheriff's Office Denies Reports Of 'Creepy Clowns'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Reports of "creepy clown" sightings in parts of the country have terrified – or amused – many. But it seems the craze hasn't quite hit Minnesota yet … for now.
On Tuesday, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office noticed enough social media claims and "middle school gossip" that it needed to address it via Facebook. In the post, the sheriff's office denies reports that both Andover and Anoka schools are on lockdown because of clowns.
Furthermore, the sheriff's office says there have been no reports of clown sightings in the areas the Andover and Anoka.
"Any social media reports to the contrary are incorrect and any information being shared is speculative rumor that is completely false," the sheriff's office said.
Meanwhile, in Shakopee, police say they received reports of a video that shows a "creepy clown" chasing a vehicle. Police say the video was made by two of the city's students, which was posted on Snapchat as a joke for Halloween season.
Shakopee police say they are aware of the multiple stories of creepy clown sightings around the United States, but there are no legitimate reports of it happening in Shakopee.
The chief of police in Farmington posted a message on Facebook Tuesday after his office received several reports of a man dressed as a clown in Rambling River Park. The clown, who referred to himself as "Bobo the Friendly Clown," was apparently set on appearing near Dodge and Boeckman schools on Tuesday.
"Bobo … you are not welcome at any of the schools for a delicious nutritious lunch. You are however, more than welcome to have lunch with me and my officers," Chief Brian Lindquist said. "It won't be as tasty and the conversation probably a little too mature for you; but I have a very scary jail cell I think you would appreciate meeting."
