MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says an investigation is underway after a 32-year-old woman was struck and killed by a motorist on Highway 47 Thursday evening.

According to the sheriff's office, emergency responders were dispatched to an incident at 10:20 p.m. where a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle at Highway 47 and University Avenue Northwest in Coon Rapids.

Upon arrival, life-saving efforts were performed on the woman and she was taken to Mercy Hospital. She was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound on the highway in the right lane. Then, the woman was traveling eastbound across the highway -- on a red light with no crosswalk -- when she was struck by the vehicle.

The deceased woman was from Saint Paul Park. The state patrol says alcohol was involved in regards to the deceased woman, but no further details were given.

Road conditions were dry at the time. The driver of the vehicle, a 49-year-old Anoka man, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not involved in regards to him, the state patrol said.

The incident remains under investigation.
