Animal Humane Society Hosts Virtual 'Walk For Animals'
Every year, thousands of animals in our community are in need of a second chance. At WCCO, we're committed to sharing their stories and bringing awareness to the work Animal Humane Society is doing in our community. Despite the many challenges they are facing as a result of this crisis, Animal Humane Society provides these animals with food, shelter, medical care, and most importantly, the love these animals deserve.
This year, the Walk for Animals is celebrating its 50th Anniversary! Animal Humane Society is hosting the 50th annual Walk for Animals virtually on Saturday, May 1. WCCO is still participating and you join our virtual walk HERE!
What is a virtual walk? It's a walk on your own terms! Whether you choose to walk in your own neighborhood, at a nearby park, or even on a treadmill at home, you'll be making a difference for animals.

Help commemorate 50 years of walking for animals during Animal Humane Society's first-ever Celebration Week, April 26-30.
This epic week of contests, prizes, auctions, and activities will take place on Animal Humane Society's Facebook and Instagram pages. New ways to get involved will be announced daily.
- Memory Monday: Capture a favorite memory of you and your pet with a custom pet portrait from local cartoonist Gary Mitchell.
- #TongueOutTuesday presented by Tito's: Get your paws on drool-worthy drink kits from Tito's Handmade Vodka.
- Wild Wednesday: Paying homage to the beloved Walk for Animals Costume Contest and five animal lovers will win big!
- Thankful Thursday: Purina helped put together these super cool prize packs.
- FUNdraising Friday: Puppy cams, bubble machines, AHS mascots, and a 50th anniversary Walk for Animals cake — plus dozens of new packages for animals and animal lovers in the auction.
Show Your Support!
Animal Humane Society is still in need of donations to ensure they can continue to provide exceptional care to animals. We understand this is a difficult time and if you are unable to donate, you can still show your support in many other ways:
- Share your photos on Walk day! Be sure to tag WCCO and Animal Humane Society and use the hashtags #WCCO #WalkforAnimals50. Your photos could be featured on-air, social media or on the Animal Humane Society's Walk for Animals website.
- Spread the word to family and friends!
- Hang this poster in your window to let your neighbors know you are still supporting animals in need.
Although we may not be able to physically walk together on Saturday May 1, we can still stand together to make second chances possible for dogs, cats, and critters in need.
This year, the Walk for Animals is virtual, but your impact is real.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
