Amy Senser Ordered To Remain In Prison During Appeal
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Amy Senser has been ordered to remain in prison during her appeals process. A judge denied her request to be released on Wednesday.
Senser's attorney filed a motion to appeal the court's decision in August, after Amy Senser was found guilty of hitting and killing Anousone Phanthavong last summer.
Senser's attorney, Eric Nelson, released a statement saying, "The defense is not surprised by the court's decision. We will vigorously respond in our filings with the Court of Appeals."
Senser is currently serving a 41-month sentence in the Shakopee Women's Prison.
Nelson said the prosecution's case against her lacked sufficient evidence, allowed what he considers prejudicial video of the accident reconstruction and failed to allow Phanthavong's toxicology report from the medical examiner's office to be released.
At a hearing on Monday, Amy's husband -- former Minnesota Viking -- Joe Senser addressed the media on a number of issues, including why he believes Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman unfairly targeted his wife.
"Today was just another indication of what I believe is a process gone wrong," said Joe Senser on Monday.
Amy and Joe were in court trying to convince the judge to let Amy out of prison while her appeal is being considered.
