Amazon To Nearly Double Shakopee Workforce
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It has not even been operating for six months, but the Amazon.com plant in Shakopee already plans to nearly double its workforce.
A company spokesperson confirmed the fulfillment center wants to hire 1,000 full-time employees – and this is all thanks to an increase in customer demand across the company.
Samantha DiMaggio, the economic development coordinator for the city of Shakopee, said she was initially under the impression that the hires would only be for temporary positions. But she said city officials were pleasantly surprised to learn the jobs would be full time.
DiMaggio added that it is possible Shakopee might reach out to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Scott County officials to see if a traffic study should be done since more workers would be commuting to the facility.
She said they anticipated Amazon might add more workers to the Shakopee plant, but they did not anticipated it would happen so soon.
