Although The Twins Lost The Home Opener, Fans Say They'll Endure
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It wasn't quite the show they were looking for as Twins fans got their first in-person peak at their team Monday at Target Field.
The winless Twins lost to the Los Angeles Angels in the home opener, 5-1. The last time the Twins fell 0-4 was in 1969. Despite that, most of the fans said they still believe. Several of them chose to sit through most of the game despite high winds and temps in the low 40s.
There's no way to sugar coat it.
"The Twins got crushed, and Angels were doing good," said 9-year-old super fan Hayden Sather.
Sather even offered a few pointers for the manager.
"They need to get a better offense, and better defense, and better pitching," Sather said.
With innings left and beer still in the cup, many fans left the game early.
Despite their despair, Minnesota sports culture says: You keep showin' up.
"You know, us Minnesota fans, we're used to defeat," Nikki Kvam said. "So, we'll still keep coming to the games."
For those still in doubt, 85-year-old season-ticket-holder June Long shares her hard earned wisdom.
"We're going to make it," she said. "You just got to be waiting for it! They're gunna go."
To put this all in perspective, the Cubs have been waiting eternally for a World Series win, and yet you still see packed seats at Wrigley Field.
