Alert: 2 Men Threatened, Raped U Student On Campus
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota sent out a campus alert Tuesday saying a student was raped over the weekend after two men walked into her room and threatened her with a knife.
The alert said the assault happened early Sunday morning, between 12:45 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., at the Sanford Hall dorm on the East Bank.
The victim, who reported the rape on Monday, told officials that she was in the hallway when she encountered the men, who walked her back to her room. Once inside, one of the men threatened her with a knife, and then both of them raped her.
University spokesperson Tim Busse said the incident happened despite a very tight security system at Sanford Hall. He said even so, the system is not foolproof and sometimes unauthorized people find a way to "tailgate" in behind students.
Descriptions of the suspects are not yet available, the university said. Busse said it's not yet clear if the suspects actually live in the dorm or somehow got in on their own. The victim said she did not know her attackers.
Anyone with information on the assault is asked to call University of Minnesota police at 612-624-2677.
