Alan Page To Host Final Foundation Fundraiser As Sitting Justice
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page is marking a milestone this coming week.
This coming Saturday will be the last time he hosts a fundraiser for his Education Foundation as a sitting justice.
Page, who is going to be 70 later this year, will be required by state law to retire from the bench.
The justice, who is also in the NFL Hall of Fame, has been raising money for scholarships for the past 27 years.
Last year, his foundation awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships to more than 500 students.
Page says it is his way of encouraging young people to pursue higher education.
"In my view, for far too long we have overemphasized athletic importance and under-emphasized academic achievement in some of our communities of color," Page said. "My wife Diane and I decided that maybe we could try and change that."
The Page Education Foundation Gala is this coming Saturday at Target Field.
