Co. Attorney: Man Led Police On 130 MPH Chase After Store Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Brooklyn Park man faces several criminal charges for allegedly shooting a man before taking police on a high-speed chase last Thursday.
The Anoka County Attorney's office says 24-year-old Castle Rogers Ahlbeck was charged with first-degree assault of an officer, second-degree assault, illegal possession of a firearm and fleeing police.
Ahlbeck is accused of shooting a man outside of an East Bethel convenience store. A police chase followed, with Ahlbeck allegedly traveling as fast as 130 mile per hour at times. Police say he also swerved at them on several occasions.
Ahlbeck eventually left his damaged vehicle on foot before being shot by Coon Rapids Police Officer Bryan Platz.
Both Ahlbeck and the man he is accused of shooting are expected to survive. No officers were injured in the chase.
Officer Platz is on standard paid administrative leave during the investigation. He is a 15-year veteran of the department.
Ahlbeck made his first court appearance on Monday, when his bail was set at $700,000. His next appearance is set for Dec. 19.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
