After Vikings' Loss, Frazier's Message Clear: 'We Gotta Do Better'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There wasn't much to feel good about after the Vikings' season-opening loss at Detroit Sunday and Leslie Frazier's message Monday couldn't have been clearer.
"We have some work to do," Frazier said. "Without question."
There weren't a lot of positives to pull out of Sunday's season opener.
The number of negatives?
Fifteen times Monday, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier used the word "better" to describe the way his team needs to play.
"We've gotta get better in some areas," he said.
As it turns out, a lot of areas.
The play of Christian Ponder.
"There were a lot of good things he did," Frazier said. "And there were some things that, obviously, we need to improve on and get better at."
The inability to stop the screen.
"We've just got to do a better job of fitting," Frazier said.
The porous offensive line, the lack of third down conversions, the untimely penalties -- even the punter.
"He wants to do better," Frazier said. "We all want him to do better."
Above all, the turnovers need to end.
"You have to be exceptional to win those games when you finish minus in the turnover ratio," Frazier said. "And we haven't shown that we are exceptional to be able to do that."
The Vikings haven't won a game when minus in turnovers since 2010.
"We gotta do better," Frazier said. "We gotta do better."
So the message is clear. They've got to get better. That work resumes when they return to the practice field Wednesday, to get ready for a critical divisional game at Chicago.
