After Lengthy Lockdown, Stillwater Prison Back To Normal

STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) -- After nearly a week of being in lockdown, things are back to normal at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater.

Since July 25, the facility had been on lockdown to free up staff to conduct intensive searches in a number of specific areas of the facility.

Visiting will now resume on Thursday, Aug. 1, and all offenders are expected to return to their normal programming by the end of Thursday, too.

"We are constantly monitoring the offenders in our facilities to ensure that contraband is not smuggled in and that other illegal activities are not permitted," Minnesota Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Terry Carlson said. "A lockdown like this gives us the opportunity to gather hard evidence and stop problems before they start."

Carlson said a number of items were seized and placed into evidence, but said she could not provide more specific information because of ongoing investigations.
