AFSCME Members OK Tentative Deal With Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Members of the largest single union representing Duluth city workers have ratified a tentative labor contract with the city.
Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees ratified the deal Tuesday. The one-year agreement would freeze wages, except for step changes.
Union official John Westmoreland tells the Duluth News Tribune he did not know the vote tally but says the agreement was ratified "pretty convincingly."
The City Council is expected to vote on the proposal Feb. 28.
AFSCME represents nearly half of the city's work force of about 800 employees. The tentative agreement was reached Jan. 20 after negotiations that began in November.
If approved by the council, as expected, the new contract would remain in effect through the rest of 2011.
