Activists Scheduled To Testify Say They Won't Show
CHICAGO (AP) -- Anti-war activists in Chicago say they won't show up to testify before a federal grand jury as ordered in subpoenas issued last year.
Maureen Murphy says she's one of nine activists ordered to appear at Chicago's Dirksen Federal Building on Tuesday. She says her understanding is that the others also don't intend to comply.
Murphy calls the subpoenas a "fishing expedition" meant to silence the anti-war movement.
More than 20 anti-war activists around the country have been subpoenaed since September, when the FBI raided the homes of several organizers in Chicago and Minneapolis.
Federal officials have said they can't comment on grand jury matters. But warrants suggest agents were looking for connections between activists and groups in Colombia and the Middle East.
None of the activists has been charged.
