Accused Coach Arrested For Violating No Contact Order
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A former tennis coach accused of having a sexual relationship with a student was arrested Wednesday for violating a no contact order.
Records show that St. Paul police arrested 27-year-old Daniel Hubbard-Wilson. He was accused earlier this month of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student. Wilson has been charged with one count of violation of a harassment restraining order in connection with the case.
According to the charges, Wilson was served with a harassment restraining order in Ramsey County Court on Oct. 6. That same day, he was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The criminal complaint said he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl that started in 2013. The relationship escalated after the girl's 16th birthday and continued until her dad confronted her about it.
The complaint states the harassment restraining order prohibited him from having any contact with the girl. Wilson posted $20,000 bail on Oct. 6 and was released from custody.
According to the complaint, Wilson told authorities he contacted the girl using social media between Oct. 10 and Oct. 19. He contacted the girl on Twitter and directed her to blog posts written by Wilson that said he had feelings for the girl, what they had was special and he was sorry for what was happening.
The complaint states the two eventually communicated back-and-forth through the blog, but the girl was getting nervous so they decided to communicate on iPods. The girl met Wilson on Oct. 10 or Oct. 11 near her home, where Wilson gave her an iPod.
The girl told Wilson that if he wanted to see her, she would be going for a run on Oct. 19 and she pointed him to a place where they could meet. Wilson then told her about the charges he was facing, how much jail time he could be facing and that he wanted her to change her original statement to police, according to the complaint.
The complaint states he wanted her to deny to police that they had any sexual contact before her 16th birthday. He also told her he didn't want her to deny everything because it wouldn't be realistic.
The girl admitted she is still in love with Wilson and doesn't want him to go to jail because she still wants to see him once he gets out, but said she couldn't lie for him, the complaint states.
If convicted, Wilson faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for violating the harassment restraining order.
Hubbard-Wilson was a tennis coach at Visitation School in Mendota Heights. He resigned shortly after allegations of an inappropriate relationship arose.
The victim told authorities that Hubbard-Wilson had been involved with other girls, who've been asked to come forward.
