Accomplish With Kylie: Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery works to end child abuse and help to create strong healthy families by supporting families in crisis. They have a 24-hour helpline, offer crisis counseling and overnight care for children.
The crisis nursery is sustained through their volunteers who donate more than 400 hours of their time per week.
This week, WCCO Mid-Morning's Kylie Bearse headed over to help out.
What a whirl wind of two hours!
Bearse helped make a meal for about 15 kids with Joel Bergstrom, the nursery's development and communications director.
Just like for typical volunteers, the shift was two-hours and on a deadline. The shift began at 11 a.m. and involved making lunch by noon for 15 kids.
The best part by far was when the kids came in for lunch.
Kids don't sugar coat if your food is good or not – they'll just tell you! Bearse was happy to report that there were several fans of the beef and rice dish and a few who were not fans of the broccoli. But bringing over seconds and thirds really makes you feel good.
Volunteer opportunities with Crisis Nursery can be as little as two hours, but can still make a huge difference. Volunteers can also really dive and commit themselves to helping the families on a regular basis.
They have opportunities for both groups and individuals to volunteer. You can do anything from cooking meals for children, providing snacks, enrichment activities and child care.
