Accent Signage Owner: Devoted To Family, Friends

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Since his death Thursday, much has been reported about Reuven Rahamim, especially about his skills as a businessman. But on Friday we learned more about the immigrant who truly realized the American dream. Rahamim was a devoted family man and devout to his faith.

Steven Schoen knew Rahamim long before he was a global business leader. Rahamim worked as a tool maker at Schoen's father's company. Visiting the scene where his dear friend's life ended far too soon, Schoen focuses on memories much more joyful.

Rahamim, 61, was a devout Jew. A board member at Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park, signs made by his company Accent Signage hang on the walls – a reminder of the void he leaves behind.

Rabbi Alexander Davis is providing spiritual and emotional support for Rahamim's family, though he too shares in their devastation.

"He was an active participant in all aspects of the synagogue. Someone who gave of himself … gave of his time," Davis said. "It's truly shocking to all of us. We're in a deep state of numbness and mourning."

As police piece together why and how this tragedy happened, Rahamim's family prepares for Sukkot on Sunday, the Jewish holiday of the harvest.

"And that joy right now feels very distant, and very far ... far off," Rabbi Davis said. "We'll find strength in each other through our hugs, through our prayers, through turning to God."

Reuven Rahamim's funeral is set for this Sunday at Beth El Synagogue.

Rabbi Davis says the name Rahamim means "merciful and kind."
