About 14,000 Hit Target Field For TwinsFest
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There is a good chance it won't be much warmer for the Minnesota Twins home opener in April than it was Sunday at Target Field for the final day of TwinsFest at Target Field.
An estimated 14,000 fans attended festivities over the weekend, raising around $300,000 for the Twins Community Fund. This is year two of a three-year commitment to TwinsFest at Target Field.
It's a lot more spread out than the indoor confines of the Metrodome provided, but still an enthusiastic turnout who got autographs and pictures with more than 60 current and former Twins players.
After four straight 90-plus loss seasons, no question the fan base has more than a wait and see approach. They bolstered their much maligned starting staff with the signing of Ervin Santana and brought in veteran, Torii Hunter.
But the biggest change is the manager, Paul Molitor. We asked first baseman Joe Mauer about the tone of the 1-on-1 discussions he's had with Molitor.
"We've had great conversations this winter. He's impressive," Mauer said. "I think we're a lot alike, obviously how we prepare and how we go about our business. I'm definitely excited after the conversations we've had. We want the same thing, and I'm looking forward to getting going."
