"And as we investigated further we ultimately learned of about 20-plus different addresses where he had either committed a burglary or a theft," said Mark Stehlik, Bloomington police commander.
The break in the case came when a homeowner called police Feb. 22.
"In the particular case where we got onto him, here, he had taken a GPS unit from a vehicle parked in front of his customer's home," Stehlik said.
Police followed footsteps in the snow that led them to suspect the newspaper carrier.
The man admitted to about 26 separate incidents. He targeted unlocked garages and vehicles and sold many of the items to pawn shops.
Formal charges are expected later. The suspect was arrested and later released from custody.
