A MN Prep Football First: ESPN To Televise Stillwater Vs. Cretin-Derham
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's a Minnesota first -- two metro high school football teams will play in front of the nation on Friday night.
The local football scene is in the spotlight because of Jashon Cornell, the Cretin-Derham Hall defensive end, is ranked the No. 1 2015 recruit in the country, according to ESPN.
Now the network is televising CDH's Friday night game against Stillwater.
In Stillwater, it's the last practice before the big game.
"Cretin is one of the best football programs in the state, so we've got to be at our best whether it's on TV or not," Stillwater coach Beau LaBore said.
The game will be played at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. CDH is used to the spotlight with former three-sport star Chris Weinke winning the Heisman Trophy as a Florida State Seminole in 2000.
"I hope they can see we're good football players up here in Minnesota," senior running back Blake Banham said. "We got some talent up here."
Game kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday night on ESPN2.
