93 Degree Day Brings Minnesotans 'Out Of Hibernation'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Ninety-three degrees: that's how warm it got in the Twin Cities Friday, setting a record for that particular May day.
You didn't have to look far to find people enjoying the first 90-degree day since Sept. 12.
On such a warm day, you may find Ron, of Minnetonka, and his dog, Remington, trying to beat the dog-day sun at Lake Minnetonka. One of Remington's favorite activities is taking a swim.
"He'll keep going all day," Ron said. "I'm the one who gets tired. You have to drag him out of the water. He just loves it."
It was also difficult to keep Max Berg off the water. He rushed home from college so he could rush across the lake in his jet ski.
"You get re-acquainted," Berg said. "You get to see how fast you can go again."
A steady, spring breeze off Lake Minnetonka made the beach bearable for Patricia Jorgenson and her 8-year-old granddaughter, Ivory. Normally they expect to get out to the beach in June. With the weather 20 degrees above average, Friday was a sunny surprise.
"I love this," Jorgenson said. "It's like you don't have to go to Florida or Vegas."
Or you could just go to Izzy's in St. Paul. That's where you could find Virginia Waud and her family.
They ate ice cream, which seemed to symbolize an early transition into summer.
"It's been fun, I love it," Waud said. "Everybody's out. Everybody's out of hibernation. It's like you get to know your neighbors again."
