91-Year-Old Triathlete Offers Tips To Young Competitors
LAKE ELMO, Minn. (WCCO) -- America's oldest triathlete advised the nation's youngest triathletes at Lake Elmo Saturday.
Bob Powers of St. Paul is 91-years-old. He's been competing in triathlons for decades. A few weeks ago, he won his age group at the national triathlon championship in Milwaukee.
On Saturday, he cheered on athletes at the Break Away Kids Triathlon at Lake Elmo Reserve. He offered some advice for any prospective triathletes, too.
"Plug away, don't give up," he said. "You get nicked up in your training, and you get sore legs and sore arms. Just hang in there. You'll overcome it."
Bob is a retired Marine who served in World War II, the Korean War, and he's been awarded three Purple Hearts.
