64-Year-Old Man Struck By Bus In Downtown Mpls. Dies
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 63-year-old man died after he was struck by a Metro Transit bus in downtown Minneapolis Thursday evening.
According to Metro Transit officials, the incident happened at the intersection of Marquette Avenue and 1st Street at about 6:30 p.m.
The man was in the crosswalk when the bus turned onto First Street. The bus struck the man and knocked him down.
He died at Hennepin County Medical Center at about 3 a.m. Friday. He has not yet been identified.
The driver has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. He has been with Metro Transit for 16 years.
This is the 10th fatal pedestrian accident involving a bus in 23 years, according to Metro Transit, and the first since 2010.
