6 Ways To Save $ On Halloween Candy, Costumes & More
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Did you know Halloween is the second most expensive holiday for consumers, behind only Christmas?
Yep. Didn't think so.
In fact, the National Retail Federation said the average person is expected to spend more than $75 on decor, costumes, and candy.
Here are six tips to help shave down that bottom line, courtesy of shopping savvy blogger Sarah Carlson.
Tip No. 1:
Download the Shop Savvy App on their phone. Open it up, scan a bar code and find the lowest price.
Tip No. 2:
Go to the bulk stores. Stay away from chocolate or Halloween themed candy -- that's more expensive.
Tip No. 3:
Masks are expensive. Instead, save a little bit and use face paint.
Tip No. 4:
Do a costume swap - switch with friends and family.
Tip No. 5:
Go to Freecycle.org for locals listing free costume giveaways. It's a website similar to Craigslist.
Tip No. 6:
Some local dentist offices have buy back programs where they will give you money for your candy, and in turn, ship them overseas to troops.
