6 Salmonella Cases Reported In Twin Cities From Eggs
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – At least six Minnesota residents have been diagnosed with salmonella poisoning that's been connected to organic egg shells, according to officials with the Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
Officials said the contaminated eggs were traced back to the Larry Schultz Organic Farm of Owatonna, where testing showed the presence of salmonella.
The farm is coopering with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and has recalled its affected products. The individuals became ill between Aug. 12 and Sept. 24. The individuals are both children and adults and they are residents of the seven county metro area.
Three of the six were hospitalized but have recovered. Five of the six reported eating eggs from the Larry Schultz Organic Farm that were purchased at either grocery stores or co-ops.
Eggs that were affected by the recall were sent to restaurants, grocery stores, food wholesalers and food service companies in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
