6 Injured In Minn. High School 'Mock Crash'
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (WCCO) -- Six people -- including a State Trooper -- were injured in a Detroit Lakes High School 'mock crash,' according to police.
Detroit Lake Police Chief Tim Eggebraaten says on Friday, a mock accident scene was set up at the high school to remind students of the dangers of driving under the influence. At the event, the student body of the high school was on hand to watch.
The accident scene included two vehicles that had been staged to look like a a motor vehicle accident had occurred. Student volunteers and volunteers from the community had makeup looking like injuries to add to the reality of the event.
During the demonstration, an unoccupied fire truck rolled forward and struck one of the vehicles, which struck the third vehicle. Six people suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The victims have been identified as 44-year-old Sgt. Rod Eischens of the Minnesota State Patrol, 40-year-old Joyce Stone, 9-year-old Jon Patrick Stone, 55-year-old Debra Larson, 18-year-old Olivia Johnson and 18-year-old Keandra Schumacher.
They were treated at St. Mary's Essentia Hospital.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
