50-Year-Old Crashes SUV, Dies In Isanti County
OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities say a 50-year-old Cedar, Minn. man died after being discovered outside his crashed SUV in Isanti County.
On Jan. 1 at 7:50 a.m., the Isanti County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single vehicle car crash at the intersection of Apollo Street Northeast and 269th Avenue Northeast in Oxford Township.
When first responders arrived, they found the man lying outside of his SUV. The SUV had been driven off the end of the roadway at the T-intersection and rolled. The man, identified as Thomas Leonard Babinski, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital.
The Isanti County Sheriff's Office says it is unknown if the driver was ejected or tried to get out of the vehicle on his own. The time of the crash is also unknown. The crash looks to have occurred a few hours earlier due to the natures of the injuries, the hours of darkness, and the fact that the vehicle had rolled so far off the roadway that the vehicle itself was not visible to both sides of traffic.
It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. A blood draw was taken to the hospital for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
