5 Things For Non-Football Fans To Look Forward To During Football Season

There's just one more week until kickoff for the regular NFL season. While many people eagerly await the beginning of football, filling out fantasy brackets and betting on new players, there is a subset of Americans who don't particularly enjoy the sport. So for those that aren't avid fans of the pigskin, here are five things to look forward to during football season.

Less Traffic In Downtown Minneapolis

This year the Vikings will be playing at TCF Bank Stadium near the University of Minnesota in Dinkytown. This means that downtown Minneapolis will no longer be (or will be less) congested on nights or weekends when the team plays. You can use Chicago and Washington Avenues once again.

One More Reason To Avoid Dinkytown
Piggy backing off of that reason, it gives you just one more reason to avoid the college neighborhood. Hosting games at TCF just adds even more traffic to the student ridden, parking nightmare of a neighborhood. So it seems a legitimate excuse to bypass the area altogether.

Sunday Potlucks
While watching the game may not be your thing, it can be easy enough to fake cheer every now and then when wings, taco salads, tater tots and other greasy food is in abundance. Many groups of friends will often host get-togethers for big games, and often bars will have special events, too.

Bar Specials
You may be thinking "I have to endure football fans to get the football specials." That may be true some places, but you'd be surprised by the number of bars that aren't known spots to catch the game that also often have specials on game day.

The Start Of Fall
Summer for Minnesotans is a cherished time, as the majority of the year we deal with subzero temperatures and freezing precipitation. But, it can also be a time of muggy days, humid nights and temperatures reaching above 90. We may be biased, but aside from football beginning fall means cool nights, beautiful foliage and apple-flavored everything.  What's not to like about that?
