5 Firefighters Suffer Heat Exhaustion In NE Mpls. Fire
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Northeast Minneapolis explosion and fire displaced two families Sunday afternoon and five firefighters suffered possible heat exhaustion, according to the Minneapolis Fire Department.
Shortly before 3 p.m., fire crews responded to the explosion and fire at a residential property on 2321 Fillmore St. NE. There, they observed a fire in the basement, first and second floors. Also, a section of the exterior wall in the rear of the home was pushed out from an obvious blast from an unknown source.
Nearby residents were evacuated, but no fire extension occurred.
One occupant of the house was treated by medics on scene and taken to the hospital for evaluation. The injuries are unknown.
Four adults and two children were displaced following the three-alarm fire. The American Red Cross is now assisting them.
Five firefighters were transported to HCMC for possible heat exhaustion. Their condition is no known at this time.
The fire is under investigation.
