5 Canoeists Rescued From Northern Minn. River
GNESEN TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) – A group of five canoers had to be rescued Tuesday afternoon on Lester River near Eagle Lake in Gnesen Township, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities received a report of five juvenile canoers in distress on the river at about 1:39 p.m.
When they arrived, they found that the group did not have life jackets with them at the time of the incident. The Gnesen Fire Department located the canoers, and with help from the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, the juveniles were walked out of the woods to a waiting ambulance.
The juveniles were treated for early signs of hypothermia. Authorities said the five males were all 14 to 15 years old.
