5 Arrested After Shots Fired In Richfield
RICHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) --Five people were arrested on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis after shots were fired in Richfield on Monday, police said.
Officers responded to the Buena Vista Apartments on the 900 block of East 77th Street on a call of shots fired. Someone claimed they saw two men chasing someone and shooting a gun.
"When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with a witness that stated she saw three individuals running through the parking lot," said Deputy Chief Jay Henthorne. "Two individuals were chasing a male. [The witness] believed they were three black males and when they got behind a dumpster, she heard shots rang out."
Two of the men then ran out from behind the dumpster and into a red car, Henthorne said.
Police said a short time later, they pulled a vehicle over on northbound I-35W near 46th Street South.
They took five people into custody and are investigating them as "persons of interest" in connection with the shots fired.
When asked if a gun was found in the car, Henthorne said, "detectives are still processing the vehicle."
Police said there is currently no indication that anyone was actually shot, although they are processing a number of shell casings found on the scene.
"We recovered six rounds at the scene," Henthorne said. "I believe they are .38-caliber."
He said police are still canvassing the neighborhood, looking for a victim.
