Waconia Child Who Fell From Window In Critical Condition, ID'd
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling through a second story window in Waconia early Sunday afternoon.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the incident at 12:19 p.m. on the 1300 block of Creekside Circle. Upon arrival, deputies found the boy unresponsive, but breathing. He had a large bump on his forehead and a window screen was nearby.
The boy, identified as Quinn Ruhl Larson, was treated on scene and taken to Ridgeview Hospital where he was stabilized and later taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
Authorities say the family had recently moved into the home and were upstairs assembling furniture in the bedrooms when Larson went to the main floor, likely climbed on the sofa and was looking out the window when the screen gave way. The child then fell to the concrete patio below. According to his parents, the windows were open and the window screens were in place.
A neighbor who was outside heard the incident and found the boy on the patio, notified the parents and called 911.
"Windows open just five inches can create a hazard for young children," Sheriff Jim Olson said. "And window screens are designed to keep insects out but offer very little protection to keep kids in."
Olson encourages parents to consider installing various safeguard products to minimize these types of dangers.
"My heart breaks for this family," Olson said.
Detectives have concluded their investigation and determined the fall was accidental.
