MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- From President Obama's national address to the Mary Tyler Moore statue making a comeback in downtown Minneapolis, here are the four stories to know for Monday, Dec. 7.
President Obama says the terrorist threat against the United States has now entered a "new phase."
Obama addressed the nation from the Oval Office for 13 minutes last night. He said that ISIS threatens us all.
The President called on Congress to ban people on the no-fly list from buying guns; restrict sales of assault rifles, like those used in the San Bernardino mass shooting and create "stronger screening" for those entering the U.S. without a visa.
Syrian Refugees To Arrive In Texas
More Syrian refugees will arrive in Texas Monday.
The 12 refugees, including six children, will join relatives already living in Dallas and Houston.
After the Paris attacks, Texas officials tried to stop refugees from settling in Texas saying they posed an unacceptable security risk. But state officials eventually gave up that fight.
Another nine refugees are will arrive in Houston on Thursday.
Seventy-four years ago today, Japan attacked the U.S. Naval base in Hawaii and killed more than 2,400 Americans.
The surprise attack brought the United States into World War 2.
More than 16 million Americans fought in that war. Fewer than 900,000 are still alive today.
Mary Tyler Moore Statue Makes Comeback
The Mary Tyler Moore statue returns to downtown Minneapolis Monday morning.
It will be in a new visitor center on the corner of Nicollet and 5th street.
The statue was removed from outside Macy's and put in storage because of construction on Nicollet mall.
The statue will move back outside when that construction is finished next year.
