4 Things To Do Today From Saturday, August 13, 2016
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As August rolls on, days as beautiful as Saturday will be fewer and farther between. Rachel Slavik and Mike Augustyniak have some ways to get the most out of this beautiful August day.
1. Your friends will be green with envy if you make it out to this weekend's Irish Fair. There are a number of activities like traditional dance, Gaelic sports, a Celtic marketplace and plenty of Irish food and drinks. The free fair is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Harriet Island in St. Paul.
2. You can celebrate 50 years of Star Trek history. Back in 1966, the original series began airing and now CBS has a new series coming in January. This weekend, the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis is holding a convention featuring one of the original stars – Captain Kirk, aka William Shatner. Tickets start at $25.
3. It's the last weekend of the New Brighton Stockyard Days. One of the big highlights is the 120 mile antique car run featuring cars built before 1909. The cars will be rolling in around 3 p.m. at Long Lake Regional Park. Other events include a parade, street dances, fireworks and a medallion hunt. Stockyard Days are free.
4. It's back-to-school weekend at Target Field. The first 5,000 kids through the gates on Saturday and Sunday will receive back-to-school items from Target. Those kids will also get a Bullseye stuffed animal. The Twins take on the Kansas City Royals at 7:10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start as low as $17.
