Local Music Tap: 4 Shows To See This Week(end)

This week's "4 Shows To See" features a bunch of album/EP releases, along with a group of musicians who will be fundraising for the benefit of the family of Philando Castile. Check it all out below.

THURSDAY: Hot Date EP Release @ Bedlam – St. Paul

Kicking off the pre-weekend festivities is St. Paul chill-indie-rock-group, Hot Date, releasing its new EP, "Three Sides to a Story."

A limited number of discs will be available at the show.

Also on the bill: General B and the Wiz along with Driftless.

It all starts at 9:30 p.m.! A donation of $5 is suggested.

FRIDAY: The Right Here's Album Release @ Triple Rock Social Club - Mpls.

The self-proclaimed "rowdy twang-rock" group, The Right Here, is releasing its new album, "Stick to the Plan", at the iconic Triple Rock Social Club. It's a great energetic, distorted way to kick start the weekend!

There will also be a video premiere, free sunglasses for the first 50 attendants, a raffle, a photobooth, live art and beer/music -- of course.

Also on the bill: Arms Aloft, Class Of 86, Dingus and The Anchor Windlass.

The show begins at 9 p.m. with tickets $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

FRIDAY/SATURDAY: Dave King Trucking Company Album Release @ Vieux Carre - St. Paul

Yes, you guessed it – another album release! More fresh music!

Minneapolis drummer Dave King (of The Bad Plus) and his band, Dave King Trucking Company, are releasing their new album at the jazz club Vieux Carré!

It's said that King uses The Trucking Company as a "palette for mixing both musical styles and superior musical talents not of the mainstream." Those musical styles include folk, country and gospel sounds – presented by a jazz ensemble.

The show hits at 9 p.m. and the cover is $15 (cash only).

SUNDAY: A Fundraiser For Philando Castile @ Cedar Cultural Center- Mpls.

To wrap up the weekend, there will be a night of music, dance, meditation and community for the benefit of the family of Philando Castile at the Cedar Cultural Center. It's being called "We Stand Together: A Fundraiser For Philando."

The plethora of musical acts include PaviElle, Mina Moore, ZULUZULUU, BDP (from Nooky Jones frontman Cameron Kinghorn), Fort Wilson Riot, Eric Mayson, Rich Garvey, Manny Phesto, Prizm, Nsikak, Tony the Scribe, Lydia Liza, and Nathan Ejuwa.

There will also be surprise guests with more music, spoken word poetry and dance.

It's an all-ages event goes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a $10 suggested donation. All the proceeds from the event will go to the family of Philando Castile.
