4 Kids, 1 Adult Hurt In Escalator Pile-Up In Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. (WCCO) -- A number of children and one adult were injured after being involved in a pile-up on a Wells Fargo escalator Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports from Northland's NewsCenter in Duluth, the accident happened at about 1 p.m. at the location along Superior Street.

Officers called to the scene were told that about 20 children were stuck on the escalator.

Northland's NewsCenter reported that four children and one adult were taken to St. Lukes and Essentia St. Mary's for their injuries. One child had "a substantial ankle injury," whereas others were treated only for minor cuts and scrapes.

The incident happened because one of the children was reportedly afraid to get off of the escalator, which caused a chain reaction with everyone standing behind.

The kids were there with daycare providers, and were tied together with a rope during the excursion.
